Perforated sheet metal: pattern as an architectural tool

The architectural value of perforated sheet metal lies in the system created across its surface. Perforations can form a regular pattern, change gradually, create a graphic composition or even abstract an image; at the same time, the open area ratio can influence technical functions. Visual intent and manufacturability should therefore be considered together during design. A direct relationship with the manufacturer helps designers move beyond existing patterns and develop a perforated surface based on the project’s own logic.
