Expanded metal: how can it become an architectural surface?

The character of expanded metal comes from the manufacturing process itself. The size, orientation, open area and depth of the mesh strongly influence how the surface is perceived from different viewpoints. Its architectural application is therefore a question of geometry and light as well as material selection. An understanding of manufacturing parameters allows designers to look beyond standard mesh sizes, explore project-specific surfaces and work with the manufacturer to turn an idea into a buildable system.
